POLICE AND FIREFIGHTERS ‘SHOOT IT OUT’ FOR A GOOD
CAUSE
Members of the Davenport Police
and Davenport Firefighters will be shooting hoops
for a good cause this Thursday night at 7 p.m. at
the North High School Gym. All proceeds from this
competitive game are going to help support ACT-SO, a
major youth initiative of the NAACP. Tickets are
just $5 per person.
ACT-SO, the Afro Academic,
Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics is
designed to promote academic and artistic excellence
among African American high school students.
Categories of these “Olympics of the mind” include
science, humanities, performing arts, visual arts
and business. The first national ACT-SO competition
was held in 1978. Local organizers are hoping to
get the program active here in the Quad City
community. For more information about ACT-SO,
please contact Michael Cole, Davenport Community
Schools, 336-5000.
