CENTRAL STUDENT WINS DR. THOMAS DOOLEY SCHOLARSHIP

Mary Wahl, daughter of Beth Cameron and John Wahl, Davenport, will be presented with the prestigious Dr. Thomas Anthony Dooley Memorial Scholarship today at 12 noon at Central High School.  The $20,000 award will be presented by Central principal, Jeff Craig, and Dr. Walter Neiswanger, scholarship benefactor.

The Dooley Scholarship is awarded each year to a Davenport Community Schools senior.  Scholarship applicants must be in the top 10% of their class, have shown continued interest in the field of medicine and expressed a strong desire to become a medical doctor.  Dr. Neiswanger has been awarding this scholarship annually since 1965.  Mary has been accepted at the California Institute of Technology and plans to begin classes there this fall where she will study neuroscience.

In addition to being in the top 1% of her graduating class, Mary scored a “perfect” 1600 on her SAT’s and an outstanding 34 (out of 36) on her ACT’s.  She is currently enrolled in challenging college-level math courses and participates in a number of student activities.
