News Release - 5/13/09

The Title 1 department of the Davenport Community Schools is hosting a Parent Conference Day on Thursday, May 14 from 8:30am – 2:00pm at the Clarion Hotel in Davenport. Family involvement coordinators were hired this year to facilitate and encourage parent involvement at our Title 1 schools. Those schools include Madison, Fillmore, Buchanan, Monroe, Truman, Washington, Jefferson/Edison and Hayes. The liaisons are working with the Parent Information Resource Center of Iowa (PIRC) for training and to adopt best practices related to parent engagement.

In an exciting development, the liaisons have coordinated the first Parent Conference Day and over 100 parents have committed to attending this workshop. Ed Redalen, from the PIRC, is the key note speaker who will provide the frame work for parent involvement practices and there are a variety of break out sessions for parents through out the day.

Research has shown that parent engagement has a direct impact on student achievement. We hope you will help us promote this innovative approach to family involvement by sharing it with our community.
