Summer Learning Opportunities
Davenport Community Schools Programs
Stepping Stones (enrollment
form) – Students in grades K-5 can sizzle up
their summer by participating in Stepping Stones
activities at Monroe and Garfield Elementary
Schools. Activities include a focus on language
arts and math, fun with creative arts and
technology, character building, field trips and
recreation activities.
Pathways (enrollment
form) – The Pathways Program offers
enrichment activities for intermediate aged
students with a focus on academics as well as
career opportunities. Academic core areas
covered are reading and math with many creative
activities to keep students’ interest.
Summer Literacy Academy – First and
second graders who need extra literacy
instruction over the summer will participate in
flexible work groups focused on various reading
initiatives. Small groups will meet daily to
develop comprehension strategies and skills.
Academies will be held at Buchanan and
Washington Elementary Schools for eligible
students.
Summer Math Camp – Intermediate students
needing supplemental math instruction may attend
Math Camp. This camp is designed to motivate and
interest students who are eligible for this
supplemental learning opportunity. Math Camps
are offered at all intermediate schools and the
8th grade students will attend math camp at
their high school

- Davenport Public Library – check out their
great summer reading programs at

Introducing the 2008 Summer Reading Program:
“Catch the Reading Bug” for children in 5th
grade and under; “Metamorphosis” for teens; and
“READiscover Your Library” for adults. Between
June 2 and July 24, people of all ages can come
to the Main Street & Fairmount Street Libraries
to register and pick up a reading log. Once the
log is completed, return it to the Library for a
great prize!
- Bettendorf Children’s Museum – check out

The Mission of the Family Museum is to inspire
life-long learning in children through
interactive arts and science activities and
exhibits. The museum offers a variety of summer
classes and activities for all ages.

The Figge Art Museum draws upon the rich history
of the Davenport Museum of Art while setting new
standards for cultural, social and economic
development. The new facility provides
unparalleled social, cultural and educational
spaces for the community. This exciting resource
offers many classes for all ages and ability
levels.

Explore history, science and nature with
experienced instructors who know that busy kids
are happy kids. Bring along snacks, and a lunch
from home for full day camps. Camps meet
Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm unless specified

A beautiful gift like YMCA Camp Abe Lincoln is
something that has to be shared with the entire
world. That’s why our staff have put together
such an incredible array of programs. We want to
get everyone involved in activities that not
only help to grow a healthy spirit, mind and
body, but grow a healthy spirit, mind and body
in a wilderness environment.

Davenport Park and Recreation department has
organized a wide array of activities, events for
all ages throughout the parks in Davenport. This
is a great way to have some fun and take in all
the wonderful parks we have in our area.
- River Music Experience – check out the

The River Music Experience (RME) exists to give
Quad-City residents and visitors opportunities
to experience America's music, and most
especially the music of the Mississippi River,
through live music performances and programs
which nurture, educate and inspire musicians,
and music appreciators.

River Action Nearly two decades ago, River
Action was founded to assure access to and
enhancement of the Mississippi River corridor in
the Quad Cities.
- Center for Alcohol and Drug Services –

The Center for Alcohol & Drug Services, Inc.
(CADS) is a non-profit organization established
to provide substance abuse prevention,
assessment, treatment, and referral services for
individuals, groups, and organizations in
eastern Iowa and western Illinois, through a
combination of private and public funds. There
are a variety of summer programs available for
kids of all ages.

The mission of the Friendly House is to respond
to the needs of families and individuals through
programs and services that will enrich their
lives and strengthen our neighborhood. This is
done through a variety of family programming,
child care services and preschool as well as

- United Neighbors –

United Neighbors, Inc. is an accessible resource
serving individuals, families and neighborhoods
in need as they strive to better and sustain
their quality of life. From June 16 – July 18,
UNI will be in three parks providing free,
structured educational and recreational
activities for children between the ages of 5 –
12. Summer hours are 9:00am – 3:00pm, five days
a week.
